Dining Services, the Ramsey Student Center, and the UGA Card Office utilize the latest technology to provide accurate, fast, and contactless facility access.

While the Iris Camera System is currently in use, the MorphoWave Entry System is being rolled-out for Fall 2025.

See below for more information about each system.

MorphoWave Entry System (Fall 2025)

Starting in Fall 2025, UGA Dining Services, the Ramsey Student Center, and the UGA Card Office will utilize a new, contactless hand-wave system to streamline access to the dining commons and the Ramsey Center.

This new system is designed to make entering the dining commons faster, more efficient, and hassle-free for students with meal plans.

How It Works

The MorphoWave biometric reader scans user’s fingertips and creates a unique set of points based on fingerprints.

These points are then turned into an encrypted code, which is stored in the database as a secure biometric template.

Every time a student visits a MorphoWave reader, they simply wave their hand through the reader and the system will match the stored template. No more fumbling for cards or waiting in line!

Signing Up

Students can sign up for this program at various Dining locations during Spring 2025.

Starting in Summer 2025, students can sign up for the MorphoWave program by visiting the UGA Card Office.

While the MorphoWave system is encouraged for all meal plan participants, students who opt out can still use their UGA OneCard to gain access.

Iris Camera System

Close up of a blue eyeThe IRIS Camera System uses a mathematical analysis of the random patterns within the iris of an eye to verify a person’s identity. In the enrollment stage, the IRIS Camera System captures a digital photographed iris pattern (D-PIP) of a user’s eyes. When a user approaches a turnstile, the IRIS Camera compares the D-PIP at the recognition station for verification. The D-PIP data is used only by the University of Georgia. Caution: This device may not be suitable for those with photosensitive epilepsy or other photosensitivities.

The system provides accurate authentication from 10-14 inches away using camera technology in less than two seconds. The identification works with contacts, eyeglasses, and goggles. The technology decreases customer wait time at the turnstiles and provide a hygienic and hands-free entry method into UGA’s five dining commons and the Ramsey Center. It is important that customers continue to carry their UGA OneCard with them as this card is required to use Paw Points, rent equipment, and access other campus services. All meal plan participants are encouraged to use the IRIS system, however, students who are not enrolled may use their UGA OneCard for entry.

*Please note that between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. you must have your UGA OneCard to gain late-night entry at Snelling Dining Commons.
